Catholic Adult Faith Education

No one can please God without Faith says St. Paul in his letter to the Hebrews (11:6).

Holy Redeemer Parish and Father Paul Shepherd are pleased to announce the implementation of a year long initiative focusing on Catholic Adult Faith Education. This dynamic educational program comprises a multi-faceted design to stimulate interest and encourage participation by parishioners.

Faith Seminars in 2004

Fr. Paul will present 2-hour standalone Faith Seminars, which have been designed for those who have busy family and work lives.

  • Wed, Jan 28 7:30pm - Worship of God
  • Wed, Mar 24 7:30pm - Social Teachings
  • Wed, May 26 7:30pm - Community & Service

Each presentation by Father will be followed by small group discussions around "points to ponder" and include a debriefing back in the large group.

Adult Faith Renewal in 2004

Beginning January 19, 2004, the Education Committee will present the Faith Renewal program. This twelve week program is for adult Catholics who want to develop a deeper understanding of their faith and the ways in which it can be lived and expressed in daily life. The program will be presented by members of the parish who have studied the faith and grown in their knowledge of the teachings of the Church. Each evening will include a seminar presentation on a specific aspect of Christian living given from the Catholic perspective. This will be followed by small group discussions where participants reflect on the topic presented and share their own insights on living the practice of their faith. There is no prerequisite knowledge or course of study. One need only a desire to grow in faith and become more familiar with the Church's teachings and ways to become a better disciple of Jesus in our society today. The topics included in the program are:

  • Prayer and the Journey [Jan 19]
  • The Prayer Within [Jan 26]
  • The Bible in the Catholic Church [Feb 2]
  • Using (Reading) the New Testament [Feb 9]
  • Who is God? [Feb 16]
  • The Church as Worshipping Community [Feb 23]
  • The Eucharist [Mar 1]
  • The Family in God's Plan [Mar 8]
  • The Social Doctrine of the Church [Mar 15]
  • We Need One Another [Mar 22]
  • Choosing a Ministry [Mar 29]
  • Always-Never-Most of the Time [Apr 5]

As we begin the new year, as we move to renewing our church building, make a part of your New Year's resolution the renewal of your faith and your desire to live as a disciple of the Lord Jesus. There will be sign up sheets at the back of the church on January 4. The Education Committee asks that you add your name to the list so they can be prepared for the number of people who wish to participate. There is no fee for this program, only a heart willing to share the gospel and a mind open to the good news of Christ.
