What does it mean to LIVE LITURGICALLY?

What is a DOMESTIC CHURCH?

The term “domestic church” originates from a Church document. Here’s the official title:

DOGMATIC CONSTITUTION ON THE CHURCH
LUMEN GENTIUM
SOLEMNLY PROMULGATED BY HIS HOLINESS
POPE PAUL VI
ON NOVEMBER 21, 1964

Here is the line including the term: 

“From the wedlock of Christians there comes the family, in which new citizens of human society are born, who by the grace of the Holy Spirit received in baptism are made children of God, thus perpetuating the people of God through the centuries. The family is, so to speak, the domestic church. In it parents should, by their word and example, be the first preachers of the faith to their children; they should encourage them in the vocation which is proper to each of them, fostering with special care vocation to a sacred state.”

What this means for Catholic families like yours and mine: we are invited, encouraged, indeed called to practice, live, and grow our faith at home, especially if we have children to whom we must pass on our faith. 

Going to Mass is the highlight of our faith practice. But we must “bring home” our faith to our families: husband to wife, wife to husband, parents to children.

To live liturgically means to be aware, day by day, of the Church’s calendar: its Seasons, Feast Days, and Solemnities. By “following” the Church calendar, you will become more attuned to the life of the Church as it returns, year after year, to Christ: his birth, his missionary life, his death and resurrection. And you will become more in communion with the saints, seeing yourself as a member of this great Church that spans generations past and present and into the next life.
